A Little Bit About
Shaun Stacey
Having been in the Construction Industry all my life, my world has been surrounded with straight lines and level surfaces. However, my life changed almost overnight when I discovered my artistic flair using the medium of wood.
I now look at almost everything in a different light, and, like most artists, get my inspiration from nature.

Inspiration
Nature has a very large influence on my work, but there are many other things that open my mind.
Almost every object I encounter I study for shape and texture, from a manhole in the street to the natural sponges of the sea. All these items have some sort of influence on my work, and I assess how these inspirational thoughts can be incorporated into my pieces.
Pots and urns from the past now hold as many wonders in terms of shape, colour and texture, as the wild seas. My aim is to incorporate these with the natural beauty of the variety of woods that are available. Using texture and colour I endeavour to enhance each piece of work to show it's form and natural beauty.
Inspiration is everywhere - you just need to see it!

My Mentor - Nick Agar
I can clearly remember the first time I met Nick all those years ago at the Yandles spring show. Looking rather out of place in my suit after coming from a business meeting I watched Nick’s demonstration, when it came to one section, he used a traditional spray diffuser to atomise stain onto the work the truth is, I was mesmerised… I knew then that I had to learn these techniques for myself and incorporate them into my own work.
This moment started a friendship that, through Nick’s guidance and inspiration, I have developed and expanded. Nick and I don’t just share a passion for wood but for most things including outdoor pursuits and visiting museums for inspiration followed by a debrief over a curry! The techniques that Nick has taught me over the many years we have been friends have bought another depth to my work.
Nick and I also became freeman of the city of London and Liveryman of The Worshipful Company Of Turners Of London together an incredible honour for us both.
Nick has now moved to Brooklet , Georgia in the USA and teaches from an amazingly equipped workshop. Sadly, for Nick taking certain wood and wood in its unturned form into the U.S. has many restrictions and is diligently monitored by border control. Because of this I am the lucky guardian of some of Nicks amazing work, and an awful lot of unturned treasures waiting to begin their creative journey.
